Given the current COVID-19 crisis, we know youth ministry must be challenging right now. Check out the resources below for creative ways to continue interacting with your students and families!
General Methods and Practices
Be intentional. There’s not necessarily a right or wrong way as long as we are intentional with those we serve.
Pace Yourself- We are in this for the long haul. With not knowing how long this new season of ministry will last, pace yourself and your ideas.
Online Meetings- Zoom, Instagram Live or Facebook Live. Google Hangout is not recommended. Zoom seems to be the most user friendly and widely used by groups right now. Basic meetings are free, but are limited to 40 minutes. For unlimited time and groups up to 100, it’s $15 per month per host.
Use multiple touch points during the week with each connection looking different. Aside from your weekly online gathering, share a quick devotional 2-3 times a week.
Go old school and write letters to your students as one of your touch points during the week!
Setup a YouVersion Bible Reading Plan together
Games- Get creative with your students during your meetings. Here’s a resource gathered from multiple youth pastors - Zoom Youth Group Games. *Note- In the comments section, there is a host of more ideas on games you can do virtually with your students.
Play Jackbox games with your students- How to Play Jackbox remotely *Note- There is a family friendly setting
Connect with Parents- Weekly Zoom call with parents to determine needs and find out what’s going on in their world. Give them an outlet to share.
Connect with Volunteers- Continue your regular encouragement and connections with volunteers through texts, cards and online meetings. Encourage them to stay connected with students.
